2005 4Runner
We took delivery on 10-30-04.  We ordered the i-Force V8 model, but whoever the distributor was placed the order wrong and it came in as a V6 instead.

Options:
X-Reas Shock Absorbers (shifts fluid automatically from one side of the car to the other to reduce lean in turns and reduce the risk of roll-over in an accident)
JBL Synthesis 3-in-1 10 speaker stereo w/ center channel and subwoofer
Front and rear side and curtain airbags with preaccident rollover detection sysstem

Options that are usually included on the limited model but we specifically asked they not include them:
Sunroof
Rear Spoiler

In the garage.

Sitting pretty on the driveway on a rainy afternoon, only 2 days old.  You can see the daytime running lights are orange on this model, which is something I've always liked.

More of a side profile shot. The color is called "Titanium Metallic"

Shot of the rear hatch.  The rear window will go down using the remote or a button up front.

Interior shot. I really like the feel of the black plastic on the doors and top of the dash in this SUV... it feels identical to the high-density rubberized stuff used in most BMW dashes.  Notice the driver's seat on the left seat cushion area toward the seat back the leather looks a little wrinkled... it's not fitted all the way back into the seat properly.  This is the only initial defect I've found in the car so far after looking it over pretty carefully.  Really just cosmetic though so no big deal.

Closer up shot of the JBL Synthesis stereo (optional).

Steering wheel controls for the radio on the left.  I'm guessing the dummy buttons on the right would be used if we had the navigation system, but I'm really not sure.  Everything I've read says all 4Runner models use LED backlighting for the gauges, but it really doesn't look like it to me.  Maybe they're just low-powered LEDs?  The needles use LEDs as well but in this case I can definitely tell (this is only on the limited models for some reason).

Switch for the AC outlet, the automatic limited slip differential system (new for 2005 on 2WD models only), and a roll sensing control feature that tightens up the seatbelts and deploys the curtain airbags when it detects that the SUV is about to roll.  I'm really not sure why you would ever want to turn the RSCA off unless maybe you were off-roading in a 4WD model and were afraid that the system might think you were about to roll when you really weren't?

Center console.  The trim here as well as on the doors is 'graphite'.  It's really not all that convincing, but then again I'd rather have fake aluminum and graphite trim than fake wood trim.

Close up of the center console controls.  The auto climate control will switch from recirculation to fresh air as well as front front vents to floor vents or defrost depending on the conditions in detects.  We really haven't tested it out much yet but I'll assume it's closely related to the system in my car which is is great at taking care of things on its own.  I just noticed the gauges here look kind of hazy.  I'm wondering if there's a clear plastic I need to peel off or if it just looks that way in the pic.  I'll have to check up on that.

Another center console shot.  The front of the actual armrest area folds out if you wan to rest your elbow on it.   Seat heater buttons on either side.  The three dummy buttons in the middle were for 4WD models only, I know one of them would have been downhill assist control, one would have been uphill assist control, and I'm not sure about the other one.

Passenger seat

Here you can see the center channel speaker that comes with the JBL synthesis system.  I'm confused as to why this is here when the only sources it has available (CD, AM/FM, and tape) are 2-channel formats.  It is set on surround sound mode by default, but it sounds better to me with the surround sound off.  I have a friend with the same basic system in his 04 Sienna minivan and his is the same way, except he has a rear DVD system, so they turn the surround sound on only when they're watching a movie.  I don't *think* that a DVD system is even an option on the 4Runner, so I'm guessing the surround sound is just there if a few years down the road you add some sort of a DVD-Audio, Super Audio CD, or multi-channel satellite radio connect?

Running boards.

Lights and fog lights on (normally auto but I forced them on for the pic)

Front skid plates. There are rear skid plates as well as armor protecting sensitive parts underneath such as the fuel tank and so on.  Not sure why they put this on 2WD models, but there it is.

Bridgestone Dueller H/T 840 tires on 17" aluminum wheels. 265/65/R17.

I haven't really figured out what this dimpled material is underneath the car is but it's all over the place and in some areas in the wheels wells too.

Another interior shot.  The passenger seat is power too, but it doesn't have power lumbar.

The motor.  4.0L V6 w/ VVT-i.  245 horsepower, 282 lb-ft of torque at 3400 RPM.  All aluminum.  Paired with a 5-speed automatic.  I believe this motor uses a timing chain that is internal and never supposed to be changed. Also of an interesting note, for 2005 Toyota moved many of their models (including ours) to a slightly revised type of transmission and 'super' transmission fluid that is never supposed to be changed.  There's not even a dipstick in the engine bay to check it anymore.  Weird.

Plenty of room to work around this motor.  Notice the oil filter sits at the top of the motor.  That's really cool and all but I'm still going to have to get underneath the car to drain the oil, so I don't really see the point.

Otherside of the motor.  Again, plenty of room to maneuver.

Rear cargo area

Rear cargo area with the cargo net pulled off and the 'double decker' lid raised up.  Basically it just allows you to stack two layers of things on top of one another.  The rear gate seems to be hydraulic.  You just push a button inside the car or push a button on the rear hatch and it lifts up.  You have to manually push it back down, but once you get it most of the way down, it stops you and it 'sucks' itself closed electronically.  The cargo shade has an extension that goes both back toward the rear hatch as well as front toward the seat.  The factory subwoofer is on the right side.

Spare tire, exhaust, and trailer hitch mount.

The rear seats

Rear seat audio system.  It basically just gives you two wireless headphones that can listen to something other than what the main system is listening to (or the same thing at a higher/lower volume if wanted)
